Legion and Guild Changes

During Legion we’ve actively raided every tier and for most part killed things second or third on the realm. There were also a few realm first kills but most of them were taken by other guilds. We’ve managed to clear Emerald Nightmare within time for Cutting Edge but in the later instances we ran late, Gul’dan we missed out by roughly a week and as things stood it would also repeat on Kil’jaeden.

Due to misalignment between raiders – people seeing raiding differently, having too different goals one from another and non matching expectations I’ve decided to step down from managing raids and the guild until I had a clearer vision in mind in what we wanted to achieve and how we are going to do it.

In turn we’ve stopped raiding for a while and have been slowly working on reforming the guild so it more closely matches the intention.

– We will increase our raid hours per week to 12 to begin with and possibly eventually to 16 if the raiders within the guild will feel like this is a realistic thing to do, and have the interest for it.

– Secondly we will refocus the effort on bringing up raiders freshly rather than counting on perpetual recruitment to fill the gaps as that lead to significantly larger member turnover than wanted. We are looking for long term members who live and breathe for the guild and get the same in return.

– We will go back to the basics and evaluate where people are doing things wrong as in the past it has shown that inability to prepare properly, badly set up UI, as well as over lenient approach all harmed us in the long term and micromanage few things that can be done in order to bring higher level of satisfaction to the whole raid group.

More on this topic will come in future posts, but this is the core idea.

First Week of Legion Raiding

Legion is well underway, our raiding schedule has ended for the first week of Legion raiding and the time has come to reactivate this blog with updates about our raid progress! I’ll be posting updates like this one, summarizing our progress up until everything is on farm.

In my time with Dark Glare, this has been perhaps the most organized guild-wide preparation effort towards a new expansion launch. Everyone with beta researched and practiced their class as well as sharing various tips and tricks to make leveling, gearing and preparation as smooth as possible. The first week of Mythic dungeons opening was a little hectic – people formed groups ad hoc as time allowed – but the following two weeks, we organized into groups to gear ourselves as efficiently as possible.

And by now – after 4 raids – we have cleared Heroic Emerald Nightmare. An extra raid day was necessary, as we lost a lot of time on Cenarius while learning to handle the Nightmare Brambles. (The lack of an indicator for the target the brambles are chasing is incredibly frustrating.) Some extra time was also lost on the first two bosses we did – Nythendra and Il’gynoth – since we had to adapt our tactics, particularly regarding add priority on Il’gynoth.

Let’s hope we can keep this level of preparation and play for the coming weeks – Mythic is right around the corner, and the real progress begins there.

Our plan for the next reset is to dip our toes into Mythic first, then clear Heroic afterwards. I’ll bring more updates as we get further into Mythic. Stay tuned!

Mythic Gruul Down! 5/10M Realm First!

This sure turned out to be one nice fight, and we chose to push for it before the itemlevel buff on gear to make sure we did it as it was originally tuned and intended since enrage timer is the only check on the fight realistically.

We had some close % wipes on first night but the tactic we used wasn’t clean or viable longterm, so when we returned we changed it a bit and made it sustainable and within the hour he was laying dead under our feet.

The Butcher butchered! 5/7M Realm First!

After a fast kill on Brackenspore we moved on to Butcher, and knew immediately he’s in kill range. By the end of tries on first night we ended at 3% enrage, and knew we can push that last few % the next time we get there. Minor optimizations later and bam he’s dead! Moving on to Koragh.
